Getting started in photography can be like stepping into a minefield – so many cameras to choose from – so many choices to make.
Well, my advice is BUY THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD and to KEEP IT SIMPLE.
For this reason I recommend buying a good quality compact camera to begin with. You will be able to get instant pleasure from it AND if you buy well now, it will serve you in the future as you advance to more complex cameras – perhaps a DSLR.

The little Canon Ixus camera you see here may not look much. Don’t be deceived. It is a fine camera capable of producing superb images – I have exhibited many 20″ x 16″ prints from photographs taken on my Canon Ixus. Even if you buy a DSLR in the future, your compact camera will always be your best friend. You will take it everywhere – I do.
So there you are – that’s all you need to get started… and all for under £200. You now have a superb and simple little outfit you can take anywhere. Just thread the leather case onto your belt and you are equipped.
Even when you buy a DSLR in the future, your little Canon Ixus will be an integral part of your camera kit.
If you have any doubts about the sort of quality that can be produced with this kit, take a look at the photograph below…

Of course, a digital campact camera has many limitations when compared to a more complex DSLR. But part of your learning process in photography is getting to know where those limitations are and working within them – even turning them to your advantage.
Always remember – it’s not the camera that makes good photography – it’s the way it’s used.
If you would like to learn how to get the absolute maximum for any camera – you can do no better than to join me on a Photography Holiday, a Photography Course or for individual Photography Training. Thousands of photographers have done that over the past 10 years and many have gone on to great things.
