MacLellan's Castle

The imposing ruins of MacLellan's castle stand right in the centre of Kirkcudbright, overlooking the harbour. It was built by Sir Thomas MacLellan of Bombie and completed in 1582. It was designed more as a home than a defensive castle - hence the larger windows to admit more light - but the arrow slits and gun loops are still there. In the early 18th Century there were plans to convert the castle into a prison, but these were abandoned and Kirkcudbright kept its romantic ruin.

The ruins are open to the public and the castle makes a fine subject when we are working in town - one task you may be set is to come up with as many interesting angles as possible - maybe even one or two that have not been captured before.
