Timing and composition

Using the basic rules of composition, and with a careful eye on the timing of our pictures, a short walk along this part of High Street can produce some lovely photographs.

You can have access to the Students' Course Notes covering these subjects.

KIRKCUDBRIGHT - SCOTLAND'S ARTISTS' TOWN
What has Kirkcudbright got to offer photographers?

The High Street - 1

We use High Street for all sorts of photography exercises - photographing small details; cropping out the inevitable white van that always seems to be parked in our line of view; making the most of wide-angle and telephoto lenses. All these things are possible when we explore this old part of the town.

From the Tollbooth Arts Centre to St. Cuthbert Street, High Street is a narrow residential street lined with lovely 18th Century houses. Pictures abound. There are straightforward angles of the Georgian doorways and windows, long shots of the pastel-coloured frontages. Everywhere you look there is something to see worth photographing. No wonder students enjoy a tour of the town so much.

MG Midgets and Georgian doorways in the High Stree. The MG is outside The Greengate, where many of our students stay.
