Difficult lighting conditions

It's was not always easy to photograph Wilson at work, and this made a visit to the pottery very worthwhile because students had to cope with some very difficult lighting conditions to produce good results.

Wilson Lochhead - the local potter
Sadly, Wilson Lochhead has now stopped producing his beautiful and purposeful pottery at the Old Mill in Kirkcudbright, and my students can no longer enjoy taking photographs in this wonderful venue. Everyone is hoping that Wilson will once again be producing pots in the future.

Wilson's father, Thomas, was Scotland's first post-war studio potter, and his early pots were made from clay dug from the banks of the River Dee. Today, Wilson produced unique slipware and other pottery items, and many of the students who photographed him simply had to buy a pot to take home as a present..
