These Weekend Photography Courses are designed to help you achieve more from your camera and produce better photographs from every situation – every time.

Philip Dunn gives first hand tuition during a Photography Course
If you want to take better photographs and learn how to take greater control of your camera in a happy*, relaxed atmosphere, then these Photography Weekend Breaks are for you.
They are held in Galloway, SW Scotland, based in the Selkirk Arms Hotel where you can relax in comfort after a busy day taking photographs and learning new camera techniques.
The Photography Courses are led by award-winning professional photographer Philip Dunn, who for many years was The Sunday Times travel photographer.
You will NOT be sent off to fend for yourself with the excuse that you have been set a ‘project’. The tuition is personal and Philip Dunn will be there to help the photographers at all stages during the photography courses.

As you will hear in the very last comment on the clip, David Pennell is a mischievous chap* – this is what he said in an email to me:
“I enjoyed your photography week-end immensely. You have made me constructively think before pressing the button. It will be a little while before the improvements appear, but I feel very positive about entering the world of digital photography thanks to your guidance.”

Learn an effective way of taking better photographs
During these Weekend Photography Courses I’ll teach you a method of taking photographs that’s much more valuable and effective than a whole bagful of expensive camera gear. The way you see and capture pictures will be vastly improved.
If it’s purely technical geeky photography tuition you want, these photo courses are not for you.
Along with extensive practical advice, this tuition will enable you to convert your thoughts into successful photographs… to THINK visually.

Like to learn how to use a tripod properly? It's just one of the things you can learn on a Photography Workshop with Philip Dunn

- How to use light more effectively
- Improve your camera craft
- Learn how to think in visual terms – the way the camera sees
- Dramatically improve your picture composition
Let’s kill the myth that photography is a mysterious and elitist art. You’ll be a far more competent photographer at the end of your weekend – and you will get a great deal more pleasure from your photography.
Maximum ten photographers – non-participants welcome on these weekends. Non-participants do not take part in the tuition or field trips, but enjoy all the pleasures of a relaxing weekend in a lovely hotel.

Philip Dunn giving personal tuition to a group of photographers enjoying a Photography Workshop in SW Scotland. There is always time for individuals during these photography courses
For these Photography Weekend Workshop courses you will stay at the Selkirk Arms in the centre of Kirkcudbright, well know as Scotland’s Artists’ Town. The Selkirk is a really comfortable hotel offering full conference facilities and excellent food.

We spend as much time as possible outdoors actually taking photographs, but we start our understanding of light, composition and camera craft in the conference room. This has excellent facilities and enables us to project our work on screen and learn the art of good photography in comfort
