FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q - What are Philip Dunn's qualifications?
A - I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years and worked for many of the world's top newspapers and magazines - more details
Q - Do I need to have some experience in photography before I can come on a course?
A - None whatsoever. I can tailor the tuition to suit your level of experience. I have taught everyone from experienced professionals to complete beginners, and, as the courses are on a one-to-one or very small group basis, this works well.
Q - Is there an age limit for the tuition?
A - Yes. I do not accept anyone under the age of 15 years. Otherwise it does not matter if you are over 100. My most senior student so far was over 80 - and he nearly ran me into the ground!
Q - How to I get a copy of Philip Dunn's instructional DVD?
A - To buy online just click here for details
Q - Where is Kirkcudbright?
A - Click here
Q - Are the courses for digital or film photography?
A - It doesn't matter. All photography is based on the same fundamental principles. I use both digital and film cameras and can help you with the practicalities of both.
Q - I own just a simple automatic camera. Do I need good equipment to come on a course.
A - Not at all. I can show you how to get better pictures from the simplest point-and-shoot camera.
Q - What do I need to bring with me?
A - Some of your previous work - if you have some - because this is our starting point. Your camera equipment, film or memory cards, batteries and warm/wet weather clothing including wellie boots if you have them. Most important of all, come with an open mind and a sense of humour - we prefer happy people.
Q - Do I need to bring a tripod?
A - No - not if you don't normally use one. However, if you would like to learn more about using a tripod - bring it along. For some more advanced techiques it will be essential.
Q - Where can I stay?
A - We can recommend the best B&B in Kirkcudbright - with our friends Pauline and Colin Saul at The Greengate. It's lovely. Also The Selkirk Arms Hotel, where you will get a ten per cent discount - more details
Q - Is there any back-up to help me after the course?
A - Yes, you will be given FREE access to the private Students' Area of the Photoactive website, where you'll find a huge resource of information. more details
Q - How many days tuition will I need?
A - I always advise that you come for no more than two days to begin with. You will learn a great deal in that time. Then go away and practice. You can always come back again at a later date if you feel you want to - lots of people do.
Q - How much will it cost?
