ONE-TO-ONE PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES
in SW SCOTLAND

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY - ONE

It is hugely rewarding when people write to me after enjoying their course. On the next three pages is some of the feedback I have received. Thank you all.

In case you are wondering, when the students talk about 'monkeys', they are referring to the 'light monkeys' they all learn about. Silly, but it works!

COMMENTS ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY HOLIDAY IN MENORCA

Mark Watt (right) wrote: "I have to confess, I wasn't sure what to expect from the 1 day course and felt quite nervous about it. Thankfully, there was nothing to be nervous about. I had alot of fun and came out with a lot more than I expected. Philip, you are the GURU and made me see the light!!!!"

"...I can see things differently now - many thanks for your most relaxed way of teaching - I was dreading the 'school master' kind of approach - but thank goodness that was not the way!

"Thank you for the two just wonderful days in Kirkcudbright. I have come away with a renewed enthusiasm for photography and am certain that I shall be taking immensely improved pictures. Maybe some great ones!!
This will be entirely due to the tutorship of Philip who is a great ambassador for his profession. His friendly and relaxed manner inspires confidence as he explains the complicated art of taking beautiful pictures and makes it look easy! His greatest success was in passing on some of his immense knowledge in a manner that made it possible to believe that anyone could take great pictures.

I would like to add that it was a joy to be with you and Norene for two days."

"...The outdoor shoots were inspiring as Philip, always sensitive and helpful, suggested ways of improving my own vision and composition rather than imposing his own ideas.
Philip has a unique product and a unique mission. It was a pleasure to share this with him."

"Thank you ever so much for two wonderful days in Kirkcudbright. You both made me feel very welcome and get the best out of the course. Back home I am making good use of the winter light on the old farm machinery and coming up with some fantastic results. Many thanks again."

"Many thanks for the wonderful photography course and the lunches. We enjoyed ourselves very much and hope we might take some good photos. You certainly got us going."

Mike Gove
"The course was much more akin to friendly banter about photography than a series of lessons, and all the better for it. I now feel both more capable of exploring photography and more confident that I can attempt to capture images otherwise beyond my skill".

Jo Bostock
"... thank you for the most wonderful 2 days. I am still buzzing with enthusiasm 2 weeks later and the monkeys are alive and well (if a little rabid at times.) Even in a Monday morning stupor I find myself wandering through Waterloo Station, on the way to work, and noticing the light - thinking about how I could put a good shot together."

"Thank you so much for your great tuition. I have enjoyed looking at your photoactive course notes over the weekend. It's such a good idea to have them available after your course to reinforce the many ideas we covered in Kirkcudbright. My head is still buzzing with all the newly learnt approaches to taking photos. I keep finding that I'm thinking about light and rectangles, even when my camera has been left at home. Your courses should come with some kind of warning about Norene's cooking. At around teatime for the last two days I have suffered severe withdrawal symptoms. Norene's chocolate cake and parkin were so delicious. Please thank her very much for making me so welcome."

Gill also came for one-to-one tuition and followed it up with a photography holiday in Menorca

"Thank you so much for such a great couple of days this autumn. We both learned a tremendous amount (and had great fun while doing it!). We are both walking around with monkeys firmly attached! Thanks again and we hope to do it again."

Andy Dent

"It was great fun and has opened up a whole new approach to taking photographs. I feel that I have taken control of the camera at long last (having discovered the manual program!) and am looking forward to experimenting with all the techniques that we discussed. My understanding of light and composition has really improved, which was a key thing I wanted to take away from the course. I hadn't anticipated taking away a couple of monkeys as well! - but I feel confident that between them they are going to improve my photography no end."

Christine and James

"We both feel that our photos have improved hugely even after such a short space of time spent with Philip. The course struck the right balance between theory, practical advice and tips and getting out there and having a go - all offered under the relaxed and encouraging tuition and atmosphere created by Philip and Norene. It took me 2 hours to take down the Christmas tree because I had to keep picking up the camera to take photos with the changing light. The light, by the way, is a constant source of discussion between us and accompanies us everywhere we go. We both really enjoyed our time with you.
Best wishes, Christine and James"

John Hamshaw
who came for one-to-one tuition and followed it up with a photography holiday in Menorca

"I appreciate so much the two days and especially thanks to Norene for her hospitality and the delicious home-made quiche. Thanks to you I now know how to take a stunning picture with just a flat, dry river bed as a subject on a lifeless, dull, overcast day; a wide angle lens and a simple flash.

Most of all Philip, I have learnt how to see. Brilliantly!! My life has changed."

Chris Young

"Thanks again for last week, it was more helpful and instructive than I could have hoped for, and I promise to put it to as good use as I can."
