Photographer Philip Dunn to retire…
Yes, that’s me, Philip Dunn. I shall no longer be taking on any new photography students, but that doesn’t mean I shall be putting away my cameras and sitting in front of the fire doing nothing. For a start, I will be changing completely the emphasis of the PhotoActive website… of course I shall not be using it to inform people about my photography tuition.
But there’s more… I have spent a great deal of my life as a cruising sailor. Photography and sailing have been enduring passions. Now I’m an armchair sailor with lots of stories to tell and photographs to show, and I’ll be releasing these through the PhotoActive Blog.
So expect to see a new section about sailing. I hope you find it all entertaining.

60 years with camera
I’ll be doing some more ‘how to’ posts on the blog and writing more fun articles on my experiences over 60 years as a professional magazine and newspaper photographer, tutor and organiser of countless photography holidays and workshops. Maybe you’ll recognise yourself in some of the pieces I write, but don’t worry: all names will be changed to protect the innocent. These posts have always been popular, and I hope to do many more of them. Mostly because I enjoy writing them.
I’ll still be taking pictures both at home and on my travels, and I feel the PhotoActive website is the ideal platform to carry on what I enjoy most… inspiring photographers of all ages to get out there and start capturing the wonderful world in which we live – and the people we live with.
Changes to the PhotoActive website
So, yes, photographer Philip Dunn is to retire, and the content of the PhotoActive website will change to reflect also my life as a cruising sailor. But I’ll still be around to answer your questions – and hopefully spend a little more time taking my own pictures and writing articles.
Please bear with me over the next few weeks while the PhotoActive website is changed. Meanwhile, many website links may not work. However, I now have the ‘Contact Me’ page working again, so if you have any ideas or just want to make contact, or keep in touch – I’d love to hear from you. I don’t intend to rush about any more, so please don’t expect instant answers – I may be out with my camera, but, sadly, not aboard my boat.
Thank You
Once again- to all the thousands of people who have been to me for guidance over the years – thank you. I learned a great deal from you, too.
Philip
